After a previous attempt to visit this landmark destination was thwarted by
cancelled flights, I finally made it to the Grand Canyon in June 2022. After
spending the first night at Mather Campground, I backpacked down below
the rim for two memorable nights at Indian Garden.
Despite temperatures in the canyon rising well above 100°F, I was able to
hike down to the river and back to Indian Garden with just a day bag and
still avoid the hottest times of day. Climbing back up to the rim was
arduous work, but the views of the canyon were reward for my effort. On
my last full day, I hiked the entirety of the Rim Trail from Hermit’s Rest to
the Village and soaked in the views. Sunsets were always amazing!
